The Sideman Method™

“Talent gets you noticed. Readiness gets you signed.”

Every year, labels pass on artists with real talent. Not because the music isn’t good enough, but because everything around the music isn’t ready. The Sideman Method exists to close that gap.

I’ve spent nearly three decades—some of that time as a major-label A&R executive, weighing in on 200+ projects, making the calls on who got signed and who got passed on. I know what actually separates a “not yet” from a “yes”—and it’s rarely the song.

This isn’t generic career coaching. It’s a framework built from what actually gets evaluated in the room, organized so you can work through it yourself or with me directly.

The Five Pillars of Artist Readiness

Readiness comes down to five things: whether the music itself is ready (Craft), whether you know who you are as an artist and can articulate it clearly (Identity), and whether the business side — contracts, splits, paperwork — is actually handled (Business). It’s also whether you’re building real relationships with an audience and the industry (Relationships), and whether you have an actual plan beyond your next release (Career). Most artists are strong in one or two of these and don’t realize it’s costing them everywhere else.

Craft

Does the music connect emotionally — and earn a replay, not just a listen?

Identity

Do you know who you are as an artist, and is that consistently communicated?

Business

Relationships

Are you earning real trust with your fans and the industry—not just hunting for visibility?

Career

Is there an actual plan, or just a next release?

Find Out Where You Actually Stand

The Sideman Artist Readiness Index™ (SARI) scores you across all five — the same categories an A&R executive would weigh. Start with the Artist Readiness Scorecard, or go deeper with Virtual Artist Mentor.

Wherever You Are, There’s A Next Step

Every artist is somewhere in the same cycle: assessing where you stand, defining who you are, developing your material, creating and preparing to release, growing an audience, and reviewing what worked. The Sideman Method meets you at your actual stage, not the one everyone assumes you’re at.

Work the system yourself, or work with me directly.

Do-It-Yourself tools take you through the framework at your own pace, starting with the A&R Readiness Scorecard and building up to the full Artist Development System.

Or work with me one-on-one through Sideman Virtual Artist Mentor — music feedback, a live, 1-on-1 strategy session, or a comprehensive Career Diagnostic with a custom next steps plan.

Either way, you’re not guessing anymore.

  • A scored breakdown across all five readiness categories

  • A clear read on your weakest area and what it's costing you

  • A natural starting point for the 90-Day Plan, if you need one

Once you have your score, the 90-Day Plan turns the gaps into weekly work.
